Live at Hondo’s

Eben and I debuted many of the songs off the new album at Hondo’s on Main, the evening of June 10. Besides the “So Little Has Changed” album, we also performed songs from a live CD of our last visit to Hondo’s back in October of 2006. It’s Eben’s and my first “Live” effort and I hope it will soon be followed by a DVD. Because of Hondo’s owner, Cris Graham, and the great staff and bartender, J.P., this venue is one of our favorite places to play and if you are ever in the area, I highly recommend their Texas style Ruben!

So Little Has Changed

12/07/2007

imageThank you KFAN, 107.9 for playing the heck out of “Gulf of Mexico” and “Balsam Blues” from the “So Little Has Changed” cd.  Here’s what Dawn Dale, Program Director KFAN had to say: “Pie fully embraces and emphasizes the very spirit of the Americana music genre according to our interpretations and standards. Her lyrics are rich and her vocals are fully captivating. Taylor Pie is a Texas Rebel Radio defining artist!”
Thank you Dawn!

We recorded this cd in Nashville, TN, as a tribute to Jack’s Tracks Recording Studio. Special thanks to the musicians, each one an artist in their own right. Dave Pomeroy, bass; Kenny Malone, percussion; Eben Wood, acoustic lead guitar, and Russ Pahl, pedal steel and electric guitar. Our approach was improvisational with little or no overdubbing, and these players made it sound easy. Co-producer Mark Miller was at the board mixing, and Don Cobb and Eric Conn of Independent Mastering in Nashville sprinkled magic dust for the final mastering touch.  I’m very proud of this offering.

Jubal

07/18/2007

image“Jubal” is a collection of songs from a decade or more of singing and pickin’. There’s a tune I wrote with Herb McCullough, and Debbie Nims on it called, “Oh, Mandolin,” that is on its way to becoming a bluegrass classic, especially after Valerie Smith’s version on her “Turtle Wings” CD, with Liberty Pike, and Tim O’Brien on mando. Mike Taylor and I wrote the opening cut, “I Don’t Like It” and there are quite a few Sharon Riddell/Pie tunes too! Of course, “Jubal” remains my most requested song at live performances, which is a great tribute to a great friend and companion. Click on ol’ Jubal’s picture and give a listen!

Long Ride Home

07/17/2007

image“Long Ride Home” is still selling well thanks to folks like John Alfano, an old Pozo-Seco fan, and music reviewer for Amazon.com, who wrote: “Just a few words to heartily recommend Taylor’s CD “Long Ride Home” to anyone interested in some excellent folk recordings. Taylor, formerly Susan Taylor of the Pozo-Seco Singers, has a voice that remains vibrant some 35 years after Pozo-Seco. From the gritty “Blue Dog Lounge” to my favorite, the enchanting “Walkin’ On the Moon”,this is certainly a goodie from a most talented lady.”

Also thanks to Dick Renko, Muzik Management; representing Trout Fishing in America; Austin Lounge Lizards; Mollie O’Brien; Terri Hendrix, and others for writing:"As the reviewers suggest Pie’s singing remains strong, clear, and passionate. Listening to this music is like putting on your favorite pair of blue jeans, so comfortable and the fit is perfect, voice, words and music matched with real experience, character, grace, and charm.. I was particularly moved by Walking on The Moon… as I listened, several things occurred to me, the first is that this song is ageless, it works well for children and for anyone that is interested in improving growing in life, and facing demons without fear. We love the whole CD.” To order, just click on my truck!
